July 2: The Spiritual Lives of Great Composers
Join us for one or all three Wednesdays this Summer: July 2, August 6, and September 10.
Following Wednesday Evening Prayer (6:00 PM) and Holy Eucharist (6:20 PM) in the Church, join us in air-conditioned Draesel Hall for a short program having to do with some aspect of the spirituality beneath, behind, and around the music, followed by dessert.
In July, Adam Koch will lead us in an exploration of the “Spiritual lives of great composers,” as he helps us understand some of the religious inputs for composers well known, and perhaps not as well known.
In August & September, Father Beddingfield and Adam Koch will lead us in an exploration of the life and of the 12th-century German abbess Hildegard of Bingen, who was a true “Renaissance woman” before the Renaissance. August will focus on Hildegard’s life and her visions, which were beautifully illustrated by the nuns under her direction. In September, we’ll continue talking about her life, but focus more on her music and chant.
