Founded in 1924, the New York Mandolin Orchestra is one of the oldest continuously performing mandolin orchestras in the United States.
The primary goals of the New York Mandolin Orchestra are to increase interest in the mandolin and promote the mandolin family of instruments and mandolin music, emphasizing the classical style
Most of the instruments are in the mandolin family: mandolin, mandola, mandocello, and mandobass. The concertina, harmonica, flute, and recorder give special sound to the orchestra.
The orchestra includes professional and amateur musicians who play a diverse repertoire ranging from bluegrass to classical music.
