Anthony Newman is the recipient of the 2025 NYCAGO Chapter International Performer of the Year Award. Mr. Newman will present a lecture recital on the performance practice in the music of J.S. Bach. The lecture will be based on Newman’s book Bach and Baroque: European Source Materials from the Baroque and Early Classical Periods with Special Emphasis on the music of J.S. Bach. After its publication in 1995, the book garnered many accolades. Frederick Neuman wrote in The American Organist, “a man with Newman’s keen intellect and rich performance experiences can be expected to have some valuable observations to impart. He does live his expectation and we have a reason to applaud…”

The program will also include the first performance of Newman’s new Passacaglia and Fugue, and Newman will be formally present is the award. A reception will follow.
